ABOUT

My work embodies “The Golden Perspective,” a philosophy focused on uncovering beauty, resilience, and positivity, even in challenging times. Through the use of golden acrylic paint, I aim to symbolize optimism, hope, and abundance, often depicted through the joyful expressions of thriving children. It is a celebration of seeing the world through a lens of possibility.

Rorisang Monanabela is a South African contemporary artist whose work captures the essence of African abundance, a vision of the future that celebrates identity, heritage, and possibility.

Born in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Rorisang grew up surrounded by the contrasts of natural beauty and social struggle. These early experiences, combined with a deep fascination for human stories, form the foundation of his creative voice.

Largely self-taught, Rorisang’s journey began after losing his university bursary, an unexpected turning point that became the catalyst for a career in art. His pieces are rooted in realism yet layered with symbolic colour and texture, often exploring themes of generational wealth, resilience, and the power of representation.

His collections, such as The World of Abundance, are not just visual works; they are narratives of hope, legacy, and the imagined futures of African communities. Each piece is a statement, inviting collectors to engage with a richer vision of the continent’s potential.

Rorisang’s work has been featured in exhibitions, private collections, and media platforms including The Insider SA, resonating with audiences both locally and internationally.

Today, he continues to create from his Johannesburg studio, producing both original works and exclusive limited editions that speak to collectors who value artistry, authenticity, and cultural depth.

Rorisang Michael Monanabela (b.1995) in Eastern Cape, is currently studying Architecture at the University of Witwatersrand and graduated from Walter Si- sulu University with a Bcom Accounting in 2018. At an age as early as five, Rorisang’s grandmother exposed him to numbers. Nonetheless, his favorite part was using pencils to draw stickmen during his mathematics lessons. In 2014 He was admitted at Walter Sisulu University to study Bachelor of Accounting Science. However, in 2017 He lost his Bursary and due to His poor background He taught himself how to draw professionally to finance his studies. Since then He had always been enthusiastic about drawing realistic portraits on paper and drawing from his imagination.

In 2018 He took Art as a career and He gradually taught himself how to master both Pencils and Paper in harmony as a medium to express himself. He explores many different drawing techniques, styles and the freedom of imagination.

As a result, he enjoys creating an illusion with His hyper-realistic drawings and illustrating his imagination and observations. Rorisang’s source of inspiration comes from His social environment, highlighting pressing matters both in his community and worldwide, matters including poverty, lack of opportunities, mental health and others. He drives at creating art that triggers a degree of emotional con- nection between his viewers and his subjects (with drawings that looks so real that you can resonate with the emotions attached to them)..
